Sewer

At the present we have two employees that are certified to maintain the city's wastewater facility.  The sewer system consists of 4 lift stations, sewer taps, and 5 lagoons that are used to treat the average 300,000 gallons of waste per day.
 


Water

The water department is responsible for the pumping of an average of 300,000 gallons of water per day, treating the water as required, collecting samples for state analysis, fixing water leaks, reading and maintaining an average of 1,626 water meters while maintaining the best quality of water possible.  At the present we have two employees that are certified to maintain the city's water facility.


Trash Pickup

Refuge is picked up twice a week at individual homes and 3 to 5 times a week at local businesses.


Parks

The city maintains 4 public parks for the safe use by our citizens and visitors. The large city park has a modern swimming pool and bath house, tennis courts, horse shoe pits, facilities for family picnics and large company picnics and gatherings.


Cemetery
The city maintains two cemeteries.  A sexton is at the cemetery office during working hours to help individuals that may stop by for information.


Streets

The street department maintains the streets, street signs, alleys, ditches and bridges.  The department marks the streets, crosswalks, and sweeps the streets as needed.  The streets are kept in the best condition possible for the safety of our citizens.


Police Protection

The mission of the Columbus Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the City of Columbus by working cooperatively with citizenry to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment in a way which strikes the optimum balance between the collective interests of all citizens and the personal rights of all individuals, while displaying no partiality to social or political influences.

The Columbus Police Department is currently staffed by nine full time Law Enforcement Officers, six part time Law Enforcement Officers, with one of the part time officers also serving as the Chaplain.  There is also one full time Animal Control Officer, and a full time Municipal City Court Clerk.

The police department has a fleet of 7 vehicles.  The fleet is made up of 2 Chevrolet Impalas, 3 Ford Crown Victoria's, 1 Buick LeSabre, and 1 Chevrolet Silverado Truck.
